For my creative project, I drew a female action figure as well as the packaging and contents that would be included with this action figure. My first drawing is a detailed look at the action figure itself, showing her wearing partial armor (so not completely metal but a mixture of metal and cloth) and holding two knives. Here is that drawing:
I thought partial armor would be good since it is a bit more versatile for the different weapons/tools that I included in her set. I also drew the action figure in action to get a better sense of how it might look being used. In this drawing, she is holding a sword and shield. Here is that drawing:
As for why I chose to create this female warrior in an action figure, I felt growing up that there were not really any female action figures, and the ones that were female typically came from some movie or TV show I didn’t watch. For a long time, I have used a variety of things like the bow and arrow, the atlatl, and the slingshot and have thrown knives and tomahawks, so it was really very disappointing not to find something that represented those interests. Because of this, I thought it would be good to design and draw a female action figure, who would still have the armor and weapons of typical action figures. I chose to draw the action figure instead of creating it out of clay or something just because I don’t have the experience or supplies to do that.I also created the
packaging for this action figure. I wanted the packaging to be more gender-neutral
because I think that this action figure should be for anybody to use, there is
no need to target it to just girls. I made the packaging yellow with orange
words and decoration on it because I thought yellow and orange were gender-neutral
and still allowed for the bright colors that typically are found with toys.
Here is the front:
I included
with the action figure two knives, a sword, a shield, and an axe. I thought it
would be nice to have a variety of weapons/tools to choose from and to mix and
match. I didn’t want to restrict it to one weapon and instead show that the
action figure can use a wide variety of weapons. The knives seemed like
something that would be in an action figure set as well as something that I
have used before so I thought I would include those, as well as the typical sword,
shield, and axe that can be found with action figures. Here is the back of the
packaging:
For the drawing on the
back, think back to the second drawing (with the sword and shield) and that’s
what I was envisioning there. I find that action figure packaging usually has
some sort of action drawing of the figure on the back to create interest, so I
did the same. So that’s what I drew for the female action figure. I am pretty
happy with the results because this was really my first time trying to draw armor and stuff. I didn’t come up with a name, though, so let me know if you
have any ideas.

I love your drawings so much Katie. I could honestly imagine this character being an actual action figure or in a movie or something. I have an idea for a possible name: Helena? but overall I really like your idea and the drawings.
ReplyDeleteI love how these drawings turned out! Your art style is so cute and I love the details on her outfit. It's really cool that you designed packaging for this action figure, since packaging can often dictate who buys a product.
